Australia’s Got Talent: Northern beaches and north shore Hummingsong Choir’s performance leaves TV judges in tears
A 350-strong choir’s performance on Australia’s Got Talent left the judges and the audience in tears, with an emotional rendition of a ballad which will air on Sunday.
Australia’s Got Talent will see the biggest act ever on its stage this Sunday — a 350-strong women’s cappella choir — and the performance was so extraordinary it left the audience and judges in tears.
The Hummingsong Choir which is based on the northern beaches and north shore, sang Somewhere Only We Know by Keane for the prerecorded show which will air this weekend.
Anna Humberstone, 41, who founded the choir in 2012, said performing on the popular talent show was overwhelming.
“It wasn’t just the judges crying, but half the audience too,” she said.
Already there are waiting lists to join at every one of the six choirs based in Warriewood, Belrose, Manly, Chatswood, Gordon and Mosman.
Ms Humberstone expects new interest after the show airs and is looking at creating new hubs.
In total there are around 460 members in total.
She said people don’t have to audition for the choirs, which is what makes them truly accessible.
“It’s helpful if people can hold a tune, but if they can’t they quickly learn how to,” Ms Humberstone said.
She said it was the community aspect of each choir which was what members really loved.
“The people within the choir really support each other and I think that’s what makes it so special,” she said.
The show airs on Channel 7 on Sunday at 7pm.
