Manly Sea Eagles fans won’t have to wait much longer for the much needed upgrade to Brookvale Oval — which includes a new 3000-seat grandstand — as a planned timeline is revealed, as well as how any asbestos risk will be managed.

A new picture of the 3000-seat grandstand for Manly Sea Eagles fans have been released, with plans due to be lodged next month and the build completed by 2021.

The club has revealed there will still be a family hill area, but will confirm the location once the designs for the redevelopment are finalised.

The redevelopment will include an asbestos management plan after the deadly material was found underneath the soil in the hill area earlier this month.

The club said Northern Beaches Council had proactively engaged an independent consultant to develop an plan that outlines the necessary strategies required to eliminate the potential risk to public health and safety on site.

Artificial turf has been installed on the affected areas, which the club said had eliminated any dangers, but project team will develop a second asbestos management plan for during the construction phase.

The $33.1 million project at Brookvale Oval will also see a new centre of excellence, elite level gym, medical and rehab facilities, changing rooms, a hydrotherapy centre, community facilities, as well as parking.

In information released by the club on social media it said the upgrade “will future proof Lottoland for the next generation of young players by supporting club development both on and off the field.

“It will also bolster the club’s ambitions of launching a women’s NRL team and further enhancing youth sporting development.”

The plans due to be lodged in October will be assessed by an independent planning consultant, as the council owns the land.

A public exhibition of the proposal will be ready by late November, early December.

Following the 21-day public exhibition, a review and determination will be made by the Sydney North Planning Panel.

It is expected the first stage of construction will start in mid 2020 and the build will take approximately 12 to 18 months.

The club also said it would seek to minimise the impact of building work on residents.

The club wrote that the jointly funded project by the State Government, Federal Government, and the Sea Eagles will also benefit the community.

In information released on its Facebook page it said the multi-purpose community facilities will enable the club to expand its suite of community programs, increase its reach and further its positive impact in the community.

It will also build on success with programs such as ‘Read with the Eagles’ and ‘Sea Eagles Breakfast Club’.

“The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles is committed to improving education and literacy outcomes, raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, fostering self-esteem, positive behaviour and mental health among young people,” it said.
