On Sunday evening Ms Bennett and dozens of others gathered at Tania Park, overlooking Sydney Harbour at Balgowlah Heights, to remember the life of the popular university engineering student.

On his Facebook page, Ms Ferry’s father, Jim Ferry, a Manly obstetrician, encouraged people to attend the “little informal Annika type gathering”.

“I suspect she’d like the following,” he wrote.

“We haven’t arranged a formal funeral yet, but in lieu of that Annika’s friends thought that she’d like a typical informal Anni type get together … so pop up to Tania Park to do an Annika type thing.”

Ms Bennett, who had tried to desperately to save he life of her friend at the isolated bunker, used social media to invite people to remember Annika.

“Can you do me a favour?” Ms Bennett asked. “Think of that damn face and smile for a second.

“Whatcha up to Sunday around sunset? Come to Tania Park, 2 Bareena Drive, Balgowlah Heights. Let’s have a cuddle, a cry, a boogie, a flop, a gallop, a yell, a handstand, goddamit bring a kite. Let’s fly a kite.

“We’re all going to hop in a circle as the sun sets and a few of us are going to do a little meditation. Mm yes. Anni’s favourite.

The invitation was open to anyone who knew Ms Ferry.

“In the centre of the circle we’ll have a big photo of Anni and flowers. So many flowers. And absolutely anything else you’d like to add.

“Wear as much colour as possible. Or something you wore with Anni that time. Lots of yellows and oranges. She’ll love that.

“And bring flowers or a rug or a dog or a frisbee or some soup or some snacks to celebrate the snack queen herself, Miss Annika Helen Ferry.

“Any friend of Anni’s is and always will be a friend of mine. Tell me stories of how you met her. How you frolicked with her. How you did whatever crazy thing Anni loved with her.

“This is going to be hard but we’re going to get through this. Together.”

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
