Amazon Australia: online retail giant opens delivery hub at Frenchs Forest

It’s one of the biggest companies in the world and has just opened its door — and job opportunities — on the northern beaches.

An international corporate heavyweight has arrived on the northern beaches.

US online retail giant Amazon has just opened the doors to a new delivery distribution hub at Frenchs Forest.

Amazon Australia said the warehouse facility — called a Delivery Station — in Rodborough Rd will help speed up deliveries to customers across the northern beaches and north shore.

It has also provided 30 local jobs.

The logistic hub, where delivery van drivers load up with parcels, is now operating, just in time to prepare for the Christmas rush as well as dedicated online sale days including Amazon Prime Day, described as a “two-day deals marathon” for Amazon’s “Prime” members, starting on October 13.

Other online sales event on the horizon include Black Friday on November 27 and Cyber Monday on December 2.

Amazon said packages are shipped to the Frenchs Forest Delivery Station from its “Fulfilment Centre”, a giant distribution warehouse at Moorebank.

In the Rodborough Rd premises the packages are loaded into delivery vehicles and then transported to customers who have ordered the goods online.

Amazon Australia’s director of operations, Craig Fuller, said the Delivery Stations “power the last mile of the order process and help speed up deliveries for customers”.

“The opening of our new Delivery Station in Frenchs Forest creates a distribution hub closer to our customers on Sydney’s north shore and northern beaches which will enable us to speed up delivery to the area.

“We also look forward to being an active member of the local community.”

Northern Beachs Mayor, Michael Regan, said the council “welcomed that a business as significant as Amazon has chosen to set up right here on the northern beaches, providing local jobs and supporting our local economy.”

Amazon has two other Delivery Centres, at Regents Park and Botany.

It is also currently building another Fulfilment Centre at Kemps Creek.
