An alleged drug dealer may have sourced ecstasy powder, LSD and cannabis from the “dark web” before selling it to his customers from the underground carpark of an Aldi supermarket on the northern beaches, documents tendered to Manly Local Court allege.
Police allege that Jesse Lindsay Holloway, 29, then sold the prohibited drugs to people waiting for him in the Aldi carpark at Mona Vale, after taking orders via a specially coded mobile phone messaging app.
Mr Holloway, an electrician from Mona Vale, is facing 21 drug-related charges after he was arrested in the carpark on October 24 last year by officers from Strike Force Ladyfish, set up to tackle the supply of MDMA (ecstasy) and LSD around Mona Vale.
Police allege he used the acronym ‘spidermanmj’ to arrange the supply of the illegal drugs via an encrypted instant messaging network app called Wickr.
In a Police Facts Sheet tendered to court police wrote that they believe Mr Holloway “has been supplying prohibited drugs in the Mona Vale area for several years”.
“Details of various drugs offered by the Accused indicate he may source the drugs via the dark web and is proficient in the use of encrypted messaging applications.
(The dark web is part of the world wide web World that is only accessible by using special software, allowing users and website operators to remain anonymous or untraceable).
“Police submit the Accused is highly organised and capable of supplying large amounts of prohibited drugs,” the Facts Sheet said.
On September 13, Mr Holloway was monitored and recorded by police allegedly supplying MDMA powder to a witness in the Aldi carpark in Bungan St.
“The Accused also provided the witness with a price list of other prohibited drugs he was willing and able to supply including MDMA, Ketamine, LSD and various types of cannabis leaf,” the Facts Sheet said.
“Between 19 and 20 September a series of encrypted communications were recorded as being sent by the Accused where he agreed to supply a witness with MDMA powder and 10 tabs of LSD for a total cost of $1600.”
Police alleged Mr Holloway was again seen supplying drug in the carpark on the evenings of September 27 and October 4.
The Facts Sheet said that when Holloway was arrested police searched his car, parked at Aldi, and allegedly found a large black bag containing 12 white envelopes “each marked with a code”.
“Inside the envelopes were various amounts of cash totalling $5,515. With the envelopes police located a piece of paper with typed codes matching each envelope and a corresponding address.”
The Facts Sheet also stated that police executed a search warrant at Mr Holloway’s flat where they seized more cash “and a variety of other prohibited drugs including cannabis leaf, MDMA, Psilocybin mushrooms, LSD and cannabis oil.”
Mr Holloway is on conditional bail and has not entered any pleas. The matter will be before the Downing Centre Local Court on April 18 for charge certification.
