Motorists face changed traffic conditions for the next two weekends as 100 truckloads of concrete is poured as part of the $500 million road upgrade linked to Northern Beaches Hospital.

Temporary lane closures will be in place at Frenchs Forest as contractors work on two road bridges over the future 1.3km Warringah Rd underpass.

From 4pm today until 8am tomorrow the three eastbound lanes of Warringah Rd will be reduced to one to allow for the concrete pour. The same procedure will occur at the same time next weekend.

Motorists turning in and out of Hilmer St and Wakehurst Parkway at Warringah Rd will be unaffected.

“Crews will be on the ground across the next two weekends to pour around 700 cubic metres of concrete to get the new bridge decks at the intersections of Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway just right,” a RMS spokesman said.

“Around 100 truckloads of concrete are expected to be transported to site from a concrete batching plant across the two weekends, which will be quite a sight.”

A new road bridge was recently poured at the intersection of Hilmer St.

RMS said all three road bridges would be open to traffic this year while work continued to excavate the Warringah Rd underpass.

“Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control,” the spokesman said.

“Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its ongoing patience while work is carried out.”

RMS has confirmed that work on the road upgrade project would continue throughout 2019.
