A SIX-LEVEL carpark, multiple eateries, entertainment areas and a vibrant new sports bar will be part of a major upgrade to Dee Why RSL.
The club announced yesterday work had begun on the $100 million expansion, which is due for completion in 2020.
The carpark, with levels above and below ground, will provide 200 more spaces as well as direct and undercover access, including lifts, to the lower reception area.
The expansion — the biggest in the club’s 70-year history — will provide multiple eateries and bar areas, additional live music and entertainment areas, a sports bar with retracting roof and a new entrance and foyer.
There will be no increase in poker machines at the site as part of the proposal.
Club president Graeme Liddell said survey feedback from members and a strategic decision by the RSL board and management was used to ensure long-term sustainability.
The survey resoundingly called for more food and beverage options, more live music and additional parking.
“The redevelopment is part of our new vision for the club — a respectful change that brings us contemporary new spaces and experiences,” he said.
“We are excited to bring this new phase of the club to the wider community and look forward to sharing updates as work progresses.”
The site would not be any higher than it currently is when complete.
“Dee Why RSL is committed to its role as a community hub, bringing people together and providing some of the best food and beverage and entertainment services the northern beaches has to offer,” Mr Liddell said.
“The development is part of the club’s strategy to diversify its offerings and revenue streams.
“We’re investing in the evolution of the club to do better, and be better, for ourselves and for the wider community.”
Throughout the construction period the majority of the southern carpark of the club will be unavailable.
The northern carpark will remain open to members, guests and customers of ZONE Bowling.
The club will also extend its door-to-door shuttle bus service to accommodate guests and staff throughout the construction period.
“While there will be some short term disruption during construction, we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure this doesn’t interfere with our guest’s experience,” Mr Liddell said.
“Guests can rest assured, knowing they’ll continue to receive the great level of service they have come to expect from the club, as well as our stellar range of food and beverage options, complimentary live music, and line-up of quality local and international acts.
“In every way Dee Why RSL will continue to support, celebrate and inspire the local community.”
