WWII hand grenade found and detonated at building site at Bardia, near Ingleburn

A WWII hand grenade, estimated to be between 60-70 years old, has been found and detonated in a hole at Bardia, near Ingleburn.

A WWII hand grenade, estimated to be between 60-70 years old, has been found and detonated in a hole at Bardia, near Ingleburn.

Construction workers were preparing land off MacDonald Rd for new homes near the military barracks on Saturday.

While using excavation equipment they found a 36M British hand grenade.

Macquarie Fields police were called and declared a safety zone around the device.

Military bomb disposal staff attended, dug a 1m deep hole and detonated the grenade.

Nobody was injured.
