AFTER scoring the most famous try in Wests Tigers history, Pat Richards is sure to make friends quickly in his new home of Mt Annan.
The 31-year-old winger was etched into Tigers history when he scored a try off a remarkable Benji Marshall "flick pass" in the 2005 NRL grand final.
But Richards left the club in 2006 to enjoy a highly successful career with English Super League club Wigan - including 167 tries, a Man of Steel award and two premierships.
When the Tigers re-signing the flyer last year, he settled into Mt Annan with his wife and two children.
"I love it so far; everyone's friendly and it's a real family sort of place. My young boy has just started school and I've got family in Narellan Vale."
Richards noted there was some "new faces" around Concord Oval.
"There's been a bit of a personnel change since I was here, but we're still training at the same place. There's some new faces but they've all been welcoming," he said.
The winger said he hoped to repeat his 2005 season effort of 20 tries, but consolidating a regular spot in a competitive backline was a priority.
"It would be nice to score that many but I'm more focused working hard to crack into the side," Richards said. "Obviously I'd prefer to play on the wing but whatever Mick (Potter) says is what happens, so I'd be happy to cover a few positions. I played a bit of fullback at Wigan and can play centre as well."
Richards' goal kicking talent - 895 in the Super League - will be handy to the Tigers, after losing first-choice kicker Benji Marshall to rugby union and second-choice Tim Moltzen to a knee injury.
Richards said he was looking forward to mentoring young backs such as David Nofoaluma, Tim Simona and Marika Koroibete.
"I've learned a fair bit in the NRL and Super League so hopefully I can pass my experience on to the young guys," he said.
