WATCH firefighters cut open a car in a mock rescue operation during a Fire and Rescue NSW open day at St Andrews Fire Station on Saturday.
People can also watch a simulation of a kitchen fire and learn about fire safety at home and what to do if a blaze starts at their property.
Visitors can also take a closer look at fire trucks and the water cannons used.
St Andrews station officer Hewon Parry said people could also see the equipment firefighters used and go on station tours.
“Most fire stations get generally hundreds of people coming along throughout the day and St Andrews is one of the most popular,’’ he said.
Safety talks at St Andrews will be on topics including installing and maintaining smoke alarms, and in-home fire safety precautions.
Talks for kids include an explanation of the ‘stop, drop and roll’ technique, as well as what to do in a house fire and which household items are potentially dangerous.
