CAMPBELLTOWN volleyball player Nehemiah Mote has a burning desire to play for NSW and is seeking the community's help with the cost of the national tournament.
The 20-year-old was selected in the NSW under-23 men's squad to compete in the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in Canberra in July.
But the University of Western Sydney student is struggling to come up with the $900 cost of the week-long competition and has asked the Macarthur region to help him pursue a dream .
Mote said he was honoured with the state selection.
"When I saw my name on the squad sheet it was like a dream come true. This is the state I was born and grew up in and I have a dream to play volleyball for NSW," he said.
"To be selected in the 10-man squad from 30 competitors was a huge confidence boost for me."
Mote's confidence was also boosted when the Australian Institute of Sport contacted him after a tournament in Canberra and offered a three-month trial for a scholarship.
He will continue his Bachelor of Arts (Social and Cultural Analysis) at the University of Canberra while trialling with AIS.
If successful, Mote would be selected in Australian side for the World University Games to be held in Kazan, Russia in July.
"My dad played volleyball for Samoa as a teenager and I hope I can represent my country too."
