Police have arrested a man and a teenager after they allegedly fled a three-car crash, which hospitalised two people, near a high school in Sydney’s southwest.
Emergency services were called to Harold St, by the gates of Macquarie Fields High School, following reports of a serious crash between a Hyundai i30, Toyota Corolla and Mercedes SUV around 10am on Saturday.
Upon arrival, police found two women trapped in the Hyundai hatchback and worked with NSW Ambulance paramedics to free them from the wreckage.
Once freed, the driver, a 61-year-old woman was treated for head and spine at the scene before paramedics took her to Liverpool Hospital.
A passenger — a woman in her 40s — was also treated by paramedics at the scene for a broken ankle and leg injuries before being taken to the same hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla was uninjured.
Three occupants from the white Mercedes SUV allegedly fled the scene of the crash on foot, prompting a manhunt that involved a police helicopter.
A 17-year-old boy was eventually arrested and taken to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard for treatment.
A 20-year-old man then turned himself in at Bankstown Police Station on Sunday, when he was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop and render assistance.
Police are investigating the incident and inquiries continue.
