NAME:Tim Campbell

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU

Having continuously worked in many mediums of entertainment — as an LOUD and proud to hail from Campbelltown, actor, and TV host on TV and stage, to fronting my own band Tim Campbell is a familiar face in concert and at events around the country, I’ve still managed the need to get avoid getting a real job! the Aussie entertainment industry.

WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THIS SUBURB ?

I am proudly was born and bred in Campbelltown, living in Leumeah and then Ruse.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LIVING THERE?

It was such a fantastically fun and free place to grow up. I’m old enough to remember to have enjoyed Campbelltown as a smaller community and watch it sprawl incredibly. The community pride has never changed.

WHAT DID YOU ENJOY DOING ON THE WEEKEND?

Back in the day, if we weren’t heading off on local bush walks or riding bikes to Menangle Markets, we were enjoying an empty no trade Sunday at Macarthur Square car park on our bikes, or at the waterslides that used to exist out the back next to a lonesome Big W building.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CAFE/RESTAURANT/BAR AND WHY?

Downe’s department store cafe always had THE BEST chocolate milkshakes — and your you’re showing your age if you remember the great Downe’s Plaza in Campbelltown. Enzo’s was always a favourite Italian. and nice to see it has grown. Still proud though that C-town still hosts the only remaining Sizzler in NSW — oh that cheese bread!

WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY LIVING IN THIS AREA?

So many. My time at Campbelltown North Primary and Campbelltown High School. Little Athletics on Friday night at Orana Park, even before the Magpies (pre Balmain merger) came to Campbelltown and soccer in the winter. And defiantly definitely the spirit of the locals, met many either through the above or working at Chamberlain St Newsagency newsagency or for David Wilson Chemist.

?DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE PARK OR OUTDOOR SPACE?

The bush area between Ruse and Campbelltown was always a favourite. to walk, especially with our dog. Really felt like you were out of suburbia. And of course how Orana Park opened to have both a main football ground and separate athletics track.

WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD CHANGE ABOUT THE SUBURB?

It’s fantastic how wide Campbelltown has spread, in some instances perhaps too wide — but what’s with the property prices?!?! I know Sydney is nuts, but calm down local real estate agents!!! No wonder I had to escape down south! :)

WHAT DO YOU TELL OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT CAMPBELLTOWN?

That growing up in Campbelltown was as raw and real as it gets. Such heartfelt and honest people to grow up with. And I’m still back there often as my brother Peter still has quite a deep connection with Campbelltown both through his business, local charity work and of course family.

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELLED TO RECENTLY?

I travel a lot for work, but was in Hobart a few weeks ago and was very impressed in how it’s progressing. Some funky new restaurants and bars, especially the new Maq10 Hotel and attached bars/restaurants — not a paid plug!

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU HAVE ON YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE?

No books for me, just the unhealthy iPhone ready for the morning, with the glass of water and Listerine strips. Even after 10 years, your partner doesn’t need to endure morning breath! :)

THE LAST MEAL THAT TRULY IMPRESSED YOU?

Just last night! I have an Armenian friend who when she says casual Thursday dinner, turns into 5 courses of incredible traditional dishes and copious amounts of champagne. I felt like a Kerrigan — “now why would you want to go out to a restaurant …”

WHAT WORRIES YOU ABOUT SOCIETY?

Our ability to believe everything we read and see without fact or research. Social media is one problem here, and the trend is continuing through other avenues. The new Trump style of ego politics and megalomania is certainly rubbing off onto some Australian politicians and other influential people in society. Take the time to think and discover, don’t fall into an easy trap of faux rage.

WHAT COMFORTS YOU ABOUT SOCIETY TODAY?

Information and education is far more accessible, and this leads to less prejudice. We’re becoming more and more accepting of people for their differences, as we have the ability to better communicate with each other. Those with a very narrow view are being left behind. #ByeFelicia
