A Thirroul surfer has been remembered as a “special soul” after he tragically died in a crash on Picton Road over the weekend.
Ty Delaney, 26, died after the ute he was driving collided head-on with a vehicle towing a boat on Picton Road at Wilton around 6am on October 17.
His male passenger and the male driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle were both treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital. They are both reported to be in a serious condition.
Mr Delaney was a popular artist who went by the name ‘Fangs’, with his work appearing in the Wonderwalls Street Art festival in Wollongong.
A Go Fund Me page was established for Mr Delaney’s family following the tragic accident, with it’s creator Kelsey Stevenson labelling his death as “senseless”.
“Our hearts are broken,” the page read.
“In the senseless blink of an eye, we have lost a son, grandson, a brother, a cousin, a nephew, a friend, a boyfriend, a colleague.”
His family said they were in “total shock and disbelief”, with Mr Delaney’s death rocking the northern Illawarra community.
On Saturday, Thirroul’s DP Surfboards owner Dylan Perese posted an Instagram story with a tribute to Mr Delaney, writing “RIP you special soul”.
“Not only a legend of a bloke, but super talented as well … You will be missed.”
So far, the Go Fund Me page established for Mr Delaney has raised more than $23,000.
