The  Macarthur Chronicle today puts our political leaders on notice — we want action on infrastructure.

As NewsLocal publications and the Daily Telegraph launch Project Sydney and the Go Macarthur campaign, we are calling for all levels of government to work together to provide much-needed infrastructure for our booming community.

Within 20 years the Macarthur region population will pass 500,000, with parts of Camden already the fastest growing community in the state.

We want the Narellan Rd upgrade finished, the Spring Farm link road started, a timetable for the Appin Rd upgrade, Badgally Rd widened and a bridge linking it to Broughton St.

We also want the State Government to go ahead with former transport minister and now Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s promise to build 450 new parking spaces at Campbelltown station.

Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak said the council had identified several projects in a submission to the Greater Sydney Commission that it placed at the top of its wishlist for the coming years.

“The main things we are looking at are roads and rail — they are vital,” she said.

“The Spring Farm to Menangle link is vital and very high on our list of priorities, and Gregory Hills Drive will be opening very soon.

“It’s very important that those projects happen to provide an alternative to Narellan Rd because at the moment it’s impacting the quality of people’s lives.”

Cr Symkowiak said the council was pushing for a southern rail connection from the airport before a northern connection is built.

“Building the rail here first will create jobs and give our growing population access to other parts of western Sydney,” she said.

Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic said upgrading Appin Rd topped his list because it had the funding.

“There’s State Government funding, developer contributions and the $50 million from the Federal Government, that should be enough to do the job down to Campbelltown but obviously the rest of the road will need to be done down the track,” Cr Brticevic said.

He said making Badgally Rd dual-lanes and electrifying rail through Menangle and out to Picton were also important issues for Campbelltown.

Our wish list:

— The urgent completion of the Narellan Rd upgrade

— Start the Spring Farm link road including on and off ramps to Hume Highway

— The immediate upgrade of Appin Rd

— 450 new parking spaces at Campbelltown station

— An overpass bridge across the rail line connecting Badgally Rd and Broughton St.

— Rail connections to Camden

— Upgrade of children’s mental health unit at Campbelltown Hospital

— Upgrade of Campbelltown Arts Centre
