PROUD father Peter Coyte was up all night on Sunday after his daughter Sarah and the Australian women's cricket team won the World Cup final.

Friends and family packed into the Coytes' Mt Annan home to watch Sarah and the Australian team post 7-259, before dismissing the West Indies for 144 in the 44th over, claiming a 114-run victory with 41 balls left.

An emotional Mr Coyte admitted the celebrations started early.

"The West Indies made a bit of a comeback but on their last two wickets we started to scream and cheer," he said. "The Coyte household was chaos and I'm surprised the neighbours got any sleep."

As the victory sunk in, Mr Coyte said a few tears of joy might have been shed.

"Seeing my daughter sing the national anthem in a World Cup final and celebrating a historic win, I couldn't hold it in.

"It's hard to put into words but all I know is that I didn't want the moment to end; the whole family couldn't be more proud."

Coyte's two player of the match awards demonstrated her efforts in helping Australia to the final.

"Sarah played the final with a bad back, which made the win even more special knowing she was playing through pain."

Mr Coyte hoped Australia's sixth World Cup victory would raise the profile of women's cricket.

"The amount of work these girls put into their careers is amazing, and they don't get the recognition they deserve. They're exceptionally talented athletes."

Mr Coyte said his daughter would be home from India on Wednesday and would be playing cricket for the Campbelltown-Camden Ghosts on Sunday
