Commuters have been advised that trains may stop on platforms or between stations for longer than normal while the incident is ongoing.

“We are diverting trains on the T2 [Inner West and Leppington], T3 [Bankstown], T4 [Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line] and T8 [Airport & South Line] lines as a result of the mechanical issue on one train that is stuck at Sydenham,” a Transport for NSW spokeswoman said.

“Repair crews are in attendance. We are working as hard we can to fix and move the train on and getting everyone else moving.”

Transport for NSW advises travellers to check transport apps, information screens and listen to announcements before getting on the train as some stopping patterns and departure platforms may change.
