More than 50 track-and-field records tumbled at the Sydney South West zone Little Athletics championships from Friday to Sunday.
Junior athletes from the greater Campbelltown area, Douglas Park and Camden came together at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium for a weekend of track-and-field action.
South West Metropolitan zone co-ordinator Gordon Costello said the championships were a great weekend of competition.
“The event went really well and thank you to the volunteers,” he said.
“The weather was excellent compared to what we had been experiencing.”
There was an amazing 48 track records broken and a further eight field records tumbled as well.
More than 550 athletes from the age of seven to 17 participated in at least four events each.
The Camden Little Athletics club emerged the winner of the zone shield.
Costello said there were no athletes that dominated in multiple areas of competition. “Everything was pretty much shared around,” he said. “The records were shared between the age groups and the sports.’’
The first four from each event will now go on to the Little Athletics regional carnival next year. The regional championships will be held from February 13 to 15 at Campbelltown Athletics Track.
