ORAN Park may have given way to development but the racing spirit of the Macarthur region still lives on.
Dalton Rowell is a back-to -back national champion in two kart categories (250 national and 125 stock Honda).
The Camden Valley Holden mechanic, from St Helens Park, has been racing super-karts since he was 16 and karts since he was seven.
Having raced with and against current V8 Supercars drivers Scott McLaughlin and Bathurst 1000 champion Chaz Mostert, it is little wonder Rowell, 22, is dominating the categories.
Ultimately he would love to move into racing cars but this requires a lot of funding.
The 250 national class reach speeds of 220km/h.
In the final race of the naitonal series at Phillip Island, Rowell had to contend with two engines blowing up in practice. “The third engine was old but still fast; we won three heats and ran out of fuel on the final turn in the final race to finish third but won the title for the second time in two years,” he said.
Rowell also broke the 10-year-old lap record for the 250 class at Phillip Island.
