Macarthur BMX Club riders and best friends Jess McCormack and Ashlee Osborne managed an incredible one-two finish respectively in the Victorian State Championships in Melbourne late last year.
The pair of BMX bandits had also pulled off a second and third-placed effort at the under-15s girls’ division at the NSW BMX state titles, where Jess once again edged out her friend.
Both girls have been riding for more than seven years and have aspirations to continue in the sport.
The teenagerswere duelling for top spot all the way through the Victorian contest.
Jess, 14, achieved a first and two second places in qualifying while Ashlee, 15, achieved a third and two first places, setting the stage for a crackerjack final.
The pair didn’t disappoint in the final, racing neck and neck the whole way.
The lead changed several times, but Jess came away with the win over Ashlee by just 17-hundredths of a second.
Jess was delighted with the result.
“I was really happy when I crossed the line first after such a close race,” Jess said.
While Jess and Ashlee race competitively together, they are the best of friends off the track.
Both girls will compete at the Australian BMX titles in Brisbane in April, where they are hoping for a top-eight finals berth and a qualification through to the world championships.
Jess and Ashlee both race for the Krank It Bike Gear Crupi race team and thanked the team for its support.
