Southern Cross Boxing Gym Campbelltown owner Terry Devlin is fast becoming one of Australia's premier boxing promoters.
Devlin, who organised Sonny Bill Williams' victory against Scott "The Animal" Lewis in 2011 and Lewis's 2010 TKO victory against Queensland and Kangaroo rugby league star Carl Webb, has lined up sacked Canberra Raiders and NSW player Blake Ferguson to fight Goulburn excavator driver Luke Turner.
The bout is on the undercard of Anthony Mundine's fight against "Sugar" Shane Mosley tomorrow night.
When Turner, a former Western Suburbs Magpies and Wests Tigers under-20s player, had his first amateur fight earlier this month at Goulburn Workers Club, Devlin offered him the Ferguson bout, but the 22-year-old declined at first.
"I had some off-field issues and my rugby league career didn't work out, but I realise this is a massive opportunity to fight an NRL superstar and I don't want regrets," he said.
"I played in the Wests Tigers development with first-graders like Tim Simona, Jesse Sue and Tim Lafai.
"It's awesome to see them grab their spots but at the same time there's that little bit of regret for me and not giving footy my best shot. So that's my motivation for this fight; to give it my best shot."
Devlin was confident Turner could get the win.
