Simmos Beach trail network receives $100K facelift
Macquarie Fields’ Simmos Beach has received an $100,000 facelift, featuring a new kayak ramp, stairs, small bridges and close to 40 signs.
New stairs, small bridges and a kayak ramp are among the new features now open at Simmos Beach Reserve.
Finding your way through the reserve is now easier than ever with 39 new signs also installed
throughout the nature space network, providing details about the reserve’s five different walking tracks.
Track upgrades include a new kayak ramp, as well as new stairs and small bridges to provide a safer walking experience and help stop erosion on the river trails.
Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic said the trail network and upgrade works would make walking the reserve easier for visitors.
“Simmos Beach is an important asset and home to many threatened species in Campbelltown,”
he said.
“The new signage makes it easier for bushwalkers to find their way around the reserve and the track upgrades will ensure it’s an even more enjoyable experience for people while also reducing the environmental impact.”
The five trails were named by Year 9 and Year 10 biology students from James Meehan High School, inspired by the reserve’s history and area’s flora and fauna.
Council contributed $80,000 to the project, with a further $20,000 contributed by Macquarie Fields Labor MP Anoulack Chanthivong through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership fund.
