The traumatised victim, Amanda Brent, a resident of a Bringelly home invaded by a balaclava-clad pair in July 2018, appeared by videolink in a disputed facts hearing for Scott Stephen Keighran at Campbelltown District Court. The Emu Plains man had previously pleaded guilty to wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated enter dwelling and reckless wounding in company but contested the facts alleged by the prosecution which is relevant to his sentencing.

Ms Brent told the court she had fallen asleep after “smoking a couple of cones” and a Xanax pill before waking with a “feeling that someone was there”.

Minutes later, she was forced back into her room where she says she was repeatedly punched in the face and stabbed in the throat by Keighran, who had only moments earlier had stabbed homeowner Vincenzo Datillo three times.

“I thought oh my god, he stabbed my throat,” Ms Brent said. “He tried to slash it across my throat and I moved my head (backwards) so (the knife) went upwards. We wouldn’t be here having this conversation if I didn’t do that.

“I can’t really recall what he was saying, (it was) something about clothes. I was just thinking about the knife, just thinking about my (family).”

Ms Brent said she wet herself during the ferocious violence by Keighran, later escaping through her bedroom window and hiding underneath the dog’s bed, an old futon lounge.

Keighran, who had been released from prison only months earlier, told the court he invaded the home with Kristen Moriarty to retrieve her belongings after they spent the night drinking together and dosing up on Xanax pills.

Moriarty has also pleaded guilty to her role in the night of horror and will return to the same court for sentencing on April 6.

Keighran said he stabbed Datillo three times outside the home, and then attacked Brent after he saw her bashing Moriarty.

“(Moriarty) was lying on her back and had her hands up trying to protect her face,” he said.

“I punched (Brent) with my left hand then slashed her with my right which had my knife.”

When asked by his barrister why he “slashed” at Brent, he said “to get her off Kristen”.

Keighran was shot in the arm as he fled the scene with Moriarty, later crashing the ute on The Northern Rd.

The hearing continues before Judge Julia Baly.
