School teacher charged by child abuse police in Campbelltown

Former schoolteacher arrested after a student was allegedly sexually abused.

Detectives have charged a former teacher over the alleged ongoing sexual abuse of a student at a high school in Sydney’s south west.

In Aprildetectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation, following reports a 14-year-old boy had been groomed and sexually assaulted by a man known to him.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 26-year-old man at Campbelltown Police Station just before 11am on Friday, June 14.

Shortly after, investigators executed a search warrant at a storage facility in Appin.

Detectives located and seized several items relevant to the investigation, including paintings. These items will undergo forensic examination.

The man was charged with aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years, aggravated sexual assault – victim under authority of offender, groom child for unlawful sexual activity, and possess child abuse material.

Police will allege in court that the man groomed the boy and sexually assaulted him on numerous occasions between 2018 and 2019.

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.

The man’s employment as a teacher has since been terminated.
