Sarah Coyte takes the skipper but Australia lost first Ashes T20 match by 15

MT ANNAN cricketer Sarah Coyte is desperate for Australia to avoid an Ashes series loss similar to their male counterparts after England won their third consecutive match.

England set a target of 146 during the first Twenty20 match of the series at Chelmsford and Coyte snagged a prominent wicket when her delivery tempted English skipper Charlotte Edwards to lob to mid-wicket and get out for 17.

But the Southern Stars failed to reach their target and finished at 5-131.

Australia can still retain the Ashes, but must win their last two Twenty20 matches to end the series in a draw.

The Southern Stars will play the second Twenty20 match at Southhampton tonight at 11.15pm AEST.
