Hume federal Liberal MP Angus Taylor has said he does not believe the Twitter movement termed #Watergate had swayed voters in the Hume electorate.
Speaking to the Chronicle in the final hours of polling, Mr Taylor said he had faith in his voters.
“The truth of the matter is Twitter doesn’t reflect the views of an electorate like mine,” he said.
“That’s something I’ve known for a long, long while and I have faith in the ability of my constituents to be able discern fact from fiction.”

Mr Taylor, who has represented the Hume electorate since 2013, pointed to his infrastructure record, the current levels of employment and strong business growth as “real outcomes” which he hoped would play a key role in the election.
Aiofe Champion: “You can’t gauge the temperature of the room” - 12.25pm
Hume Labor federal candidate Aiofe Champion has revealed voters appear to be turning away from the major parties in the opening hours of polling today.
“It’s hard to tell because I am finding in this election probably almost 50 per cent of people aren’t taking How to Vote cards from either party, so you can’t gauge the temperature of the room,” she said.
“It hasn’t happened before. I think at the state campaign there was a little bit of that but there is even more now.”

Ms Champion called on voters to be informed and “armed” in knowing what they are voting on.
“I just hope people have looked at the policies and are thinking forward into the future,” she said.
“Not just the next three years but how they want their next 10 years to unfold, the way they want their children’s future to unfold because those sort of long term policies start their implementation now.”
DEMOCRACY SAUSAGE OFF — 11.50am
Self-described as home of the best #democracysausage in Australia, Camden Public School has delivered with the perfect execution of a flavour-packed traditional sausage sanga.
Nothing fancy is required for this piece of art, a long, thin beef sausage surrounded by a dense white hotdog roll and topped with a healthy serving of slippery onion.
Despite not being as well resourced as other barbecues in Camden (an honourable mention to Camden South Public School), the no-fuss sausage sizzle was a fair dinkum winner.
Ten out of ten points in the sausage flavour stakes and ten out ten points for the sensible choice of a hotdog roll.
One point taken away for the slightly uneven onion coverage, ten out of ten points for tomato sauce (and a bonus point for allowing the customer to control the squirt), this was a sausage sizzle of dreams.
I declare 50 points out of 50, the ultimate polling station sausage sizzle.
