A young man will face a long-delayed trial for allegedly spitting on a woman and intimidating a man in a Spring Farm supermarket.
Ricky Lefoe, 30, was scheduled to appear in a Picton court hearing on Thursday after he pleaded not guilty to assault and intimidation.
However, the court heard the hearing has been delayed by the directive from the Chief Magistrate not to hold any defended hearings to avoid the increased risk of Covid transmission.
Court documents show Mr Lefoe, who works as a national supervisor for M & E Bobcat Worx, has been charged with assault and intimidation after an alleged incident in a supermarket at 6.30pm on July 5, 2020.
Police allege Lefoe was captured on CCTV spitting on a woman and intimidating a man with the intention of causing them harm in a Spring Farm store.
Picton court heard police will rely on four CCTV submissions shown to the court during Mr Lefoe’s hearing, which is expected to take four hours.
Due to the pandemic and a change in legal representation, the hearing has been adjourned until the end of the year.
Mr Lefoe is currently on strict conditional bail which directs him to abstain from drugs and alcohol and comply with testing for both substances. He is also prohibited from leaving his Spring Farm home unless accompanied by his partner or a family member.
In a statement tendered to the court, his brother-in-law said Mr Lefoe was badly affected after witnessing the murder of his older brother. The documents state Jamie Lefoe was fatally stabbed in the lower back in January 2011 by four men who are now serving prison sentences for his murder.
Mr Lefoe will appear in Picton Local Court on December 8 to fight the charges.
