The National Broadband Network (NBN) is just around the corner, and the Macarthur region is on track to be connected through rail and road infrastructure to the rest of Western Sydney.

That was the message Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull spruiked yesterday during a visit to Harrington Park and Smeaton Grange.

Visiting NBN workers hooking up the system in Smeaton Grange, Mr Turnbull said the network had arrived in the Camden area.

Mr Turnbull said the final connection nodes were being put in place.

“We’re only months away here in this area,” he said.

“It’s great to see it back on schedule.”

Earlier in the morning Mr Turnbull visited road construction workers in Harrington Park and spoke about connecting the Western Sydney region.

“What we’re doing here is planning ahead, we’re building the airport, we’re building the roads, we’re planning for the rail ... This is critically important infrastructure,” he said.

“We are very committed to having a complete transport solution which will involve roads and substantial additional rail infrastructure, not just to get people to the airport, but to improve the connectivity.”

Mr Turnbull said his 30-minute cities plan was about people having access to local jobs and not about people travelling from one edge of the city to the other.

“The point is to ensure development is balanced, so that wherever you live, there is going to be, within a reasonable distance, plenty of job opportunities, opportunities for education and recreation,” he said
