Shoppers at a complex in Sydney’s southwest have been disrupted on one of the busiest days of the year after a suspicious package was located in the carpark.
Specialist NSW Police including the rescue and bomb disposal and rescue dog teams launched an investigation at Campbelltown Mall about midday on Boxing Day, after a suspicious package was handed over to security.
The incident took place in the ground level carpark near Petstock, with officers closing the nearby entrance to the mall and part of the carpark; redirecting shoppers to use alternative entryways.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were also at the scene on standby, but no injuries were reported.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the item had been identified as an e-bike battery during their preliminary investigations, and police have wound down their presence since completing their sweep through the area.
Campbelltown Mall has returned to business as usual.
