One of Picton’s most popular dining locations, Vaby’s Restaurant, has been left reeling after suffering back-to-back break-ins across the New Year period.
Police suspect three men are responsible for both incidents, with the trio smashing thousands of dollars in damage during the rampages inside the restaurant.
Vaby’s Restaurant owner Dominik Ocheduszko, who has owned the Station St business for almost two decades, said it was the first time the restaurant had been targeted.
“You hear about it, you read about it, you see it but have never ever experienced it,” he said.
“It is a different outlook when it happens to you.”
In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, the small gang smashed through the restaurant’s front door and ransacked the small business before returning five days later to do it all again.
On the second occasion, the men are suspected of targeting a safe but were unsuccessful in stealing anything of significant value.
Mr Ocheduszko warned the culprits in a Facebook post it was only a matter of time before they were identified.
“We are a small community and we won’t let this happen and go unnoticed,” he wrote.
“Especially in these trying times we are having at the moment within our community with the bushfires.”
When asked what would he say to the men if given the chance, Mr Ocheduszko said it “wouldn’t be newspaper worthy”.
Camden police area command acting crime manager Detective Erryn Williams said the investigation was in the early stages and encouraged the community to remain vigilant across the holiday period.
“We encourage people to call police as soon as they become aware of any disturbance,” she said.
