A plan to slash the number of entry and exit points of a southwest Sydney shopping centre may not go down well with customers - but the addition of a drive-thru might. Have your say in our poll.

A plan to transform the carpark of a busy shopping centre in southwest Sydney is just one part of an proposal that would also see the addition of a drive-thru Mexican restaurant.

A development application from Hamptons Property Services proposes to make several changes to the carpark at Mount Annan Marketplace on Main Street.

One of the changes in the $1.24 million plan would see a reduction in the number of entry and exit points from five, down to two, with one located on the eastern side of the site and the second in the southwestern corner.

New boom gates with number-plate recognition would also be introduced.

There are also plans to reconfigure the existing car park including the addition of new parking spaces and introduction of small car spaces, and designated staff parking areas on the northern side of the site.

It would also include the provision of a new pad site for future food and drink premises and associated works which is set to be a Guzman Y Gomez.

Hamptons Property Services’ separate development application for the drive-thru restaurant in Mount Annan was put on public exhibition earlier this year and is still going through approval processes with Camden Council.

The new eatery would have two drive-thru lanes on the western side of the building, and 14 car parking spaces to the east and south of the building.

“The proposed use of the site as a food and drinks premises is appropriate having regard to its dynamic context and business location in an area with a growing residential population,” a report submitted to council said.

“The proposed restaurant will be consistent with the bulk and scale of other food and drinks premises within proximity of the site with a single-storey built form and dedicated car parking.

“The generous setback of the proposed building from the existing shopping centre will have minimal effect on the visibility of the centre from the streets.”

The proposal said the development does not hamper the functioning of surrounding commercial facilities.

“Additionally, the residential developments located west of the site remain unaffected,” the report said.
