ORAN PARK is expanding to new limits, with planning in motion for the region’s newest suburb.
Known as Pondicherry, the 210ha site located along The Northern Rd, north of Oran Park, has been earmarked for 2500 homes, schools and state-of-the-art sporting fields.
Greenfields Development Company general manager Mick Owens said the rezoning was a positive for the area.
“It’s the natural progression,” he said. “It’s about extending the quality of Oran Park and we are looking forward to it.”
Camden Council last Tuesday unanimously endorsed a draft planning agreement with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment for the site.
The rezoning is part of the Maryland precinct, expected to record a 69,755.92 per cent population rise from 27 in 2017 to 19,003 by 2036.
Mr Owens said the rezoning would impact the future rail corridor to Narellan.
“It will start to define where the rail corridor will be through the north of Oran Park. That is extremely important,’’ he said.
A sprawl of picturesque lakes, potentially four times the size of Harrington Park lake, will be the prime feature of the new community.
“What we do know if there will be a fantastic lake feature which will be a great community facility for residents of Oran Park,” Mr Owen said.
“There will be a green link directly from Oran Park town centre to the feature lakes. It’s a great facility for the future.”
A range of housing options will be available including “high quality homes overlooking the lakes and more standard options”.
Mr Owens said it was difficult to provide a time frame on the rezoning process but he was hopeful construction would begin by mid-2020.
