NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has promised the Macarthur region a future filled with “opportunity”, declaring the area will soon boast the “best jobs in NSW”.
More than 300 members of the business community and high school student leaders listened to the Premier’s bright vision for the region, with the Western Sydney Airport expected to be a catalyst to cutting-edge industries in robotics and defence.
“People won’t be looking to where I come from for the best jobs, they will be looking here,” said NSW Premier and Member for Willoughby Gladys Berejiklian.
“I am super excited about the opportunities a second (Sydney) airport is going to bring to this region.
“I want to emphasise again, not only is this region going to see growth in a positive way, the likes which have never been seen before, but the infrastructure will be here to support that.”
Premier Gladys Berejiklian addressed and answered questions from the business community and student leaders for 30 minutes, sharing her pride in the rate of job creation in the region.
The Premier, who is preparing to contest a state election in March next year, also revealed there has now been more than $20 billion spent on infrastructure projects in the region.
“In the last year you have created, with help from us (the state government), more than 4300 brand new jobs,” she said.
“You have also got one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state at 3.7 per cent.
“In economic terms, that means if you want a job in this area you will get a job.”
It is the fifth successive year The Greater Narellan Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Premier of NSW, with president Maria Scattergood saying it’s the biggest attendance so far.
“We felt it was a huge success,” she said. “The executive team were all very happy and had lots of positive feedback from our members.”
“Generally people are interested in what the Premier has to say.
“Our members are just happy to be there and respect the fact that the Premier takes the time for us.”
