Narellan’s skyline is set to rise with apartment buildings of up 12 storeys likely to be approved in the future.
The delivery of a Narellan rail link is expected to form part of the Western Sydney City Deal, stimulating widespread future growth.
If the expected rail link goes ahead, high rise apartment will be permitted under State Government planning controls.
Parts of Campbelltown close to the train line have already experienced an influx of high-rise apartment buildings.
Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak said she envisaged exciting projects to follow the Narellan township’s evolvement.
“The South West Rail Link from Leppington to Narellan will be a game-changer,” she said.
Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson declared a rail link to Narellan as a “no-brainer.”
“A rail link is a must-have piece of infrastructure. It is a priority to compliment our investment into our roads,” he said.
“Rail is a real catalyst for jobs and where people want to live. It will open up the entire Narellan township.”
Mr Patterson and Cr Symkowiak expect high-density living in Narellan’s CBD, following the onset of rail infrastructure.
“It will be the catalyst for the next level of growth for Narellan,” Mr Patterson said.
“Rail will open the ability for a greater number of people to live around the area, who can walk to the shops or rail.
“We first need a definitive time for the Narellan rail link and then look we will look at ways to increase density.”
High-rise apartments will be explored as an option to boost volume density around the Narellan CBD.
“One option is to look at rising height but that does not mean it will be open slather,” Mr Patterson said.
“It has to be consistent with the area and follow community consultation.”
Cr Symkowiak acknowledged high-density living would be likely.
“Look what happens around other major centres (near rail),” she said.
The Western Sydney City Deal is expected to be announced later this year.
The partnership between the three levels of government will focus on west and southwest of Sydney including Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly shire.
