INGHAM’S poultry farm, off Appin Rd, could be replaced by more than 3000 homes following the property’s recent closure.

A spokeswoman for Inghams Group Limited said the company had ceased its operations at the poultry farm in April after its lease agreement had expired.

In submissions to the Greater Sydney Commission last year, land owners Ingham Property Group proposed the 300ha site for a new housing development.

The submission was sent to the GSC during the commission’s consultation period for its Greater Sydney Regional Plan and Western District Plan late last year.

Under the finalised Western District Plan, the property was classified as part of the land release area.

The Ingham Property Group submissions said the nature of the site allowed for the provision of a new housing development with the opportunity to establish a new town centre.

“This area has been recognised as being capable of urban development, with the ability to significantly contribute to the capability of the Greater Macarthur Region to deliver timely housing supply within Sydney,” the submission stated.

“Growth in the region will also see investment in upgrading or delivering new infrastructure ... this is likely to include upgrades/new transport infrastructure, community infrastructure and services.

“(The) land is uniquely placed to take advantage of, and assist to deliver this infrastructure, with the capacity for in excess of 3000 new homes.”

The submission states the housing could be developed in the next five to 10 years.

The site falls within both Wollondilly and Campbelltown council’s boundaries and is currently a mix of rural, infrastructure and environmental conservation zoning.

No planning proposal has yet been lodged for the site.
