"RUTHLESS" Rob Lisita is one step closer to his dream of becoming the world's best featherweight mixed martial arts fighter after winning the Australian Fighting Championship 6 last month.

Lisita, of Claymore, defeated Rodolfo Marques with a technical knockout in round two.

The 30-year-old said he was proud of the win.

"The fight meant I'm the top fighter in my weight and another step towards getting where I want to go, and that's No.1 in the world," he said.

Lisita currently holds the Supremacy South Pacific Championship belt.

His record is impressive, having won 12 fights and lost five. Three were awarded on knockout or technical knockout, six on submission and the other three were decisions.

Born and raised in Claymore, Lisita first took up mixed martial arts five years ago after playing rugby league for Eagle Vale/St Andrews.

His then football coach Terry Devlin advised him to try MMA at Devlin's Southern Cross Gym at Campbelltown.

"Rob has put in so much hard work and dedication, and it's great to see him winning fights," Devlin said.

"I've been working on the stand-up side of his game."

Lisita will fight Sam Bastin for the Combat 8 featherweight championship in Newcastle in November.

He will then travel to Singapore in December for the Rebel Fighting Championship.

Lisita plans to compete in the Bellator or Ultimate Fighting Championships next year.
