MINTO futsal star Dean Lockhart has booked a spot in next month's Asian Football Confederation Cup in Vietnam after the Australian Futsalroos finished in the top three at Asian Futsal Federation Championships last week.
The Futsalroos lost 2-1 to hosts Thailand in the final, but earned a place in the prestigious Asian Cup in late November.
Australia dominated pool B and finished at the top after thrashing Laos 17-0 and Timor Leste 8-1, before a convincing 4-0 victory against Myanmar and 7-3 result over Indonesia.
The Futsalroos then faced Vietnam in the semi-final and Campbelltown Quake player Lockhart helped school their opponents 6-1 with a goal of his own.
Father Glenn Lockhart said it was "fantastic" to see his son score on the international stage. "Dean is a midfielder and normally sets up the goals, but to finish one was fantastic and made me proud," Lockhart Sr said.
Despite losing the final, Glenn Lockhart was "honoured" the Futsalroos qualified for the AFC Asian Cup.
"I'm really happy for him after everything Dean has gone through, from his dedication to training with the team to his own work with
a personal trainer; it's great to see the team rewarded," he said.
