Meeting Cristiano Ronaldo sure to keep Dustin Villareal's mind off a brain operation
MEETING Cristiano Ronaldo has relaxed Sydney teen Dustin Villareal before his brain operation in January.
SYDNEY teenager Dustin Villareal has the strength to undergo his sixth and final brain operation after meeting his hero, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, in Spain on Thursday.
The 13-year-old, from Campbelltown, posed for a photo and had his football signed by the famed No. 7 at the Ciudad Del Real Madrid training complex on Thursday.
He also met Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defenders Sergio Ramos and Marcelo, midfielders Xabi Alonso and Casemiro, as well as forwards Karim Benzema, Alvaro Morata and Jese.
Villareal's father, Rick, last month emailed Real Madrid to organise a meeting with Ronaldo to take his son's mind off his sixth and final brain operation in January.
A freak car accident last September left Villareal in a coma for three weeks and forced him to spend a majority of this year recovering at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, including five operations on his brain.
Villareal told the Macarthur Chronicle from Spain it was "the best day of his life".
"It was so unexpected. My heart started beating fast. Cristiano was a very nice man and was happy to sign my football and take a photo with me," he said.
"They were really, really nice people.
"They seem to have a lot of time for their fans and they made a big deal about me being Australian.
"It has been a stressful year after the car accident. My head injuries are getting better every day. I am getting stronger and stronger. But this meeting made my whole year."
