An 85-year-old man will fight allegations he sexually assaulted a young boy in the Macarthur region more than 40 years ago.

Maxwell John Harvey, of Picton, has been charged with indecent assault of a 14-year-old boy and committing an act of indecency on the same alleged victim.

Police allege the assaults happened in the late 1970s in the Macarthur region.

Harvey, who was granted bail last month, pleaded not guilty to both charges at Picton Local Court on Wednesday.

According to papers tendered to court, Harvey accused has no prior criminal history recorded in NSW.

“The accused made (alleged) admissions to the offence,” court papers state. “The offence, whilst historical, is of a serious nature.”

The matter was adjourned and will return to court later this month.
