Decorated Australian motorsport hall of famer Mat Mladin is set to stand trial on allegations he had sexual intercourse with a child under 10.

The 48-year-old Kirkham man spent close to a fortnight behind bars after his arrest at a Narellan home by the Child Abuse Squad in March, following a two-month investigation.

Mladin, dressed in a crisp suit and supported by three women, pleaded not guilty to having sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and committing an act of indecency with the same victim.

If found guilty of sexual intercourse with a child, the 48-year-old man is facing a maximum penalty of life in jail.

Mladin won an unmatched seven American Superbike Championships during the peak of his career and recently maintained links with the Australian superbike scene.

His lawyer Emmanuel Apokis previously questioned the strength of the prosecution case, highlighting to the court the accusations weren’t reported to police until six months after the alleged incident.

The 48-year-old father recently received treatment for mental health issues at an “expensive” private facility in the state’s north.

The matter will be mentioned Campbelltown District Court next month where Mladin will be arraigned for trial.
