WESTERN Suburbs Magpies' Ron Massey Cup campaign ended on Saturday after a 32-24 loss to rivals Wentworthville.
Both Magpies sides entered the game in opposing fashions, as Wentworthville had the week off while Wests battled to an epic golden point victory against minor premiers Cabramatta.
Wests opened the scoring with tries to Limoni Kamuta and Sam Aiga in quick succession, giving their side a 12-0 lead.
Wentworthville answered back 10 minutes before half-time after shifting the ball to the right and Arthur Takupu beating Aiga to score.
Wests, however, quickly responded when Fred Tevaga beat four players to score and give his side a 16-6 half-time lead.
Wests exploded in the second half with a quick converted try and penalty but Wentworthville struck back when Daniel Penese crossed for a four-pointer.
And when fullback Jerome Mackenzie ran 105m through the Wests' defence to score, he brought Wenty back to a 24-18 deficit.
Wenty then ran in three tries to seal the game.
Coach Leo Epifania said defence let his side down.
"I would have been thrilled with such a final position before the season started but it still hurt to fall a game short of the decider," Epifania said.
