A warehouse in Minto will transform into a bustling hub of activity with the Sydney Basket Brigade ready to pull off a Christmas miracle.
The brigade movement was inspired by author and life coach Tony Robbins, who spoke of how overwhelmed he was with the kindness and generosity of a stranger who donated a basket of fresh food to him and his family one Thanksgiving Day.
His family was so poverty-stricken, he had never had a proper meal his life and now the initiative is a global phenomenon.
The Australian chapter, which has brigades across the country, operates through Magic Moments.
Watch how to get involved:
Just in time for Christmas, volunteers wrap, pack and anonymously deliver baskets filled with food and gifts to those in need across Sydney.
Inner west mum Adeline Truong first volunteered with the Sydney Basket Brigade in 2018 in a bid to help her son learn more about the world.
“I think it was a bit of a shock for him to visit some of the housing commission homes,” she said.
“I don’t think he realised how lucky we are and it was an important lesson but I think it hit home for him.”
Ever since then, Ms Truong and her family have joined the Basket Brigade to lend a hand and now they are preparing for the 2023 Christmas season.
On December 16 at 137 Airds Rd, Minto, the brigade is hoping to deliver 1000 baskets and hopes to rally the community to help lend a hand.
“With the cost of living continuing to increase there are so many people doing it tough,” Ms Truong said.
“People can donate money if they are time-poor which will help fund our hampers but we want people to get involved.
“It’s so incredible being involved in a packing day, the energy is amazing.”
