A young woman who was only recently convicted for supplying drugs at festivals and clubs has now been convicted of shoplifting after brazenly attempting to steal from supermarkets.

Unemployed Madyson ‘Raven’ Brooks, appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday where she was fined $800 for the two theft charges.

Court documents state Brooks went to both Coles and Woolworths at Campbelltown Mall with a blue reusable cooler bag where she successfully stole $68.75 worth of items from Coles, including acai berry powder, a chocolate mint bar and caramel chocolate chip cookies.

Brooks then went to Woolworths and walked throughout the supermarket where she took various items off the shelves and put them in her trolley, court documents state.

“The accused also placed numerous items into the reusable cooler bag in the trolley,” documents said.

She closed the cooler back when she approached the register and did not pay for the items inside but was caught by Loss Prevention Officers, who noticed she concealed the items.

When she was stopped, Brooks made admissions to knowingly failing to pay for the items before confessing to also stealing from Coles.

The court heard the young woman is currently unemployed, on Jobseeker and pays $500 per month in rent.

Magistrate Shane McAnulty convicted the woman on two counts of shoplifting and fined her $400 for each charge.

“You have a jail sentence hanging over your head when you take things that don’t belong to you,’ he told Brooks.

The sentencing comes just weeks after the 25-year-old’s desire to help her drug boss lover sell MDMA at music festivals was unravelled in court.

Brooks begged her way into a criminal ring supplying drugs at dance clubs and music events while living rent-free with her boyfriend on a quiet Leumeah street and receiving no government handouts at the time.

Agreed facts reveal phone taps between the 25-year-old and her older lover in which Brooks referred customers, discussed drug prices as well as the performance of other syndicate members.

“I’m just like, it gives me something to do and I want to be a little but f**king useful,” she said according to court documents.

Brooks told her lover she personally wouldn’t pay more than $25 for a ‘cap’ and teased people at an event for paying $30, saying “of course they do …. because they’re all druggos”.

On another occasion she asked her boyfriend for permission to hit the raver scene one night and sell drugs, saying she “wouldn’t get in trouble and she would be smart”.

The court heard the pair were raising cash to escape to Melbourne and live a life away from drugs.

Court documents state the Leumeah woman told her boyfriend she had sold a “ten pack” of MDMA caps for $250 in late 2019.

On her arrest last March, Brooks told police she had no idea $17,000 worth of drugs was inside her home and that she didn’t know the price of MDMA.

The court heard the young woman was a drug addict who suffered from PTSD and mental health issues, with barrister Peter Kondich telling the court her drug habit was the chief motivation behind her involvement in the supply chain.

However, Magistrate Brett Shields ruled financial gain was also a key factor to Brooks “crossing the line”, noting her plans to live a “different life” in Melbourne.

Brooks was convicted of four counts of drug supply and one charge of participating in a criminal group and sentenced to a two and a half year jail sentence, to be served in the community as an intensive corrections order.

The 25-year-old was also banned from any contact with her drug boss lover.
