A MAN who taunted Macquarie Fields police on their Facebook page by stating “catch me if you can ya doogs’’ received a shock when officers decided to “unleashed the hounds”.
Police were seeking the man in relation to a malicious damage incident at Eagle Vale Marketplace when they posted on Facebook an appeal to the public to help find him.
In reply, the man posted “catch me if you can ya doogs’’, according to police.
“At this point of the investigation, the identity of the suspect was not known, however with this assistance, we were quickly narrowing the field of suspects,’’ police said on Facebook.
“Anyways, on Friday afternoon the challenge was accepted and I “unleashed the hounds” on the wanted fox.
“Within one hour of their release, they found our hapless suspect. He was interviewed and will be receiving a court notice.’’
Macquarie Fields Police crime manager chief inspector Mark Brett confirmed the man received the field court attendance notice on the weekend and was expected to face court later this month.
On the post, police said when they appeal for information on their Facebook page, they normally expect the help to come from others, not from the alleged perpetrator themselves.
“I am not normally in the business of offering tips to our offenders, but here are a couple: don’t post your Facebook profile to a police crime story, don’t post derogatory comments about the local police and don’t challenge the police to catch you,’’ police said on Facebook.
