TWO of Macarthur baseball's finest will go head-to-head in the Australian Baseball League this week.

Two of Macarthur baseball's finest will go head-to-head in the Australian Baseball League this week.

Camden's Matt Williams, of the Adelaide Bite, and Rosemeadow's Todd Grattan, of the Sydney Blue Sox, will renew hostilities after Williams moved from Sydney to Adelaide at the start of the 2013-14 season.

Both players are 26 years old, both are relief pitchers and both have managed to ply their trade overseas.

Williams signed a professional contract with the Minnesota Twins in the US Major League and has also represented the senior men's Australian team.

Grattan has played college baseball in Texas and professionally in Japan.

Having grown up playing each other, Grattan and Williams will be keen to have a bit of banter as Adelaide host Sydney in a four-game series from Thursday.

"They gave it to me last time in Sydney. There are still a lot of guys at the Blue Sox that I played with so hopefully I can get one over them," Williams said. "There was always going to be a rivalry and a bit of banter," Grattan said.

Although the Australian Baseball League is still in its infancy, both players are optimistic about its future.

"The level of play is increasing every year and it's the showcase of Australian baseball," Williams said. Grattan believes the sport should look to expand.

"The sport has a small community in Australia but when people see it for the first time they love it, it's about building the game and the audience," he said.

Both players are looking forward to the MLB season opener between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks at the SCG on March 22.
