MACARTHUR Bulls Police Rugby League Football Club is ready to lay down the law on the footy field.
Policemen from Cabramatta, Green Valley, Macquarie Fields, Campbelltown and Camden police stations will don a Macarthur Bulls jersey every second Wednesday to take on stations from across Sydney in the NSW Police Rugby League competition kicking off this month.
The Bulls will face Manly, the Eastern Suburbs, Sydney, Cronulla, Penrith, Bankstown and Parramatta teams. Bulls home games will be played at Campbelltown Showground.
Team manager Ben Kemp said the Bulls are ready for the competition after defeating competition favourites Manly 22-14 in a trial game.
"Manly are the competition favourites and we put in a stellar performance against them at their home ground," Kemp said.
"We've been training hard in the pre-season and it paid off in the trial as our defence was great and we executed the game of plan of completing sets."
Kemp said several, former first-grade players had strengthened the side.
"We have former NRL and Super League hooker Robbie Mears as our captain-coach and former St George Illawarra and Western Suburbs player Leo Clarke, so they've brought a heap of experience to the side," he said.
"Mitch Newton, who played for the Canterbury Bulldogs, will also slot himself into the front row in some games."
Kemp said the Bulls aimed to take the NSWPRL season out without a loss, and were looking forward to facing off with defected five-eighth Clayton Parkyns.
The Bulls' first home game is at Campbelltown Showground, Wednesday, April 24, at 4pm.
