Kyle Zammit pleads guilty to possession of guns, child abuse material in Mount Annan

An 18-year-old man has switched his pleas after being charged with intimidating two young girls not known to him at Mount Annan.

A man has admitted to intimidating two young girls and carrying more than 50 images of child abuse depicting torture and cruelty.

Kyle Zammit, 18, appeared in Picton Court on Friday via video link and entered pleas of guilty to five charges including possession of child abuse material, an unauthorised weapon and a prohibited firearm and two counts of intimidation.

He also admitted to a charge of carrying a cutting weapon upon apprehension.

Previously, Zammit had pleaded not guilty to charges of intimidation, possessing an unauthorised weapon and a prohibited firearm.

Court documents show Zammit came to the attention of police when he intimidated two young girls in Mount Annan with the intention of causing them fear around 7pm on July 18.

According to police, the girls were not previously known to the teen and he was carrying three knives at the time.

Police allege he had a military-style knife with a 10cm blade and cord handle, a folding knife with red handle, and a pocket knife with a black carrier in his possession when he was arrested.

As well as the knives, Mr Zammit had two illegal guns on July 18 despite not having a permit.

According to police, he had a black Glock pistol gel blaster with an operational slide and trigger and a gel blaster rifle with an operational trigger and mechanism which appeared to be a semiautomatic rifle.

Zammit also possessed 55 images and videos of child sex abuse material. According to police, the material showed children being subjected to torture, cruelty, physical abuse and sexual activity.

The court documents reveal Mr Zammit allegedly committed these offences only four months after becoming an adult.

Zammit was committed at Campbelltown District Court on June 9 where a date will be set down for a sentencing hearing for the five charges.

The charge of carrying knives which will be taken into account as a related charge. Zammit remains in custody on remand.
