A man who punched his partner three times and dragged her across the ground before his mates intervened has described his own behaviour as “appalling” and “unforgivable”.

Kirk Lloyd Webber, 33, appeared at Picton Local Court and pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to threaten to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Court documents reveal the Mount Annan man and his partner at the time had some friends over for a gathering on April 9, 2020.

About 3am on April 10, Webber, the victim and two male friends were sitting inside the garage listening to music and drinking.

The facts state that Webber picked up the victim’s phone and saw messages between her and other men. When she took back her phone, Webber asked her “what‘s this who are you messaging on Snapchat”.

He then grabbed the victim and pushed her towards the garage wall and she lost balance. The victim then ran but he followed, grabbed onto her and punched her three times.

Webber was pulled off his partner by friends but followed the victim into the backyard, grabbed her and dragged her along before pushing her into a fence.

The friends intervened once again, and the victim told Webber to leave. Less than an hour later, he sent her a message saying “you f--king dog c--t, your dead.”

In a letter handed to the court, Webber said he wanted to express “sincere remorse for my appalling behaviour and unforgivable actions”.

“I hurt the one person that has been there for me for the last 17 years,” he wrote.

“One of the hardest things out of this mess that I have made for my family is that I had to face my children and explain what I did on that night is never acceptable behaviour.”

In court on Thursday, Webber’s lawyer told the court that in the two years since the offence his client had not committed any further offences.

The lawyer told the court that Webber is employed as a truck driver and had engaged in eight to 10 counselling sessions since the incident. He also submitted that the offending fell below the mid range of objective seriousness.

Police prosecutor Sharon Garbutt said the matter was at the high end of the range, and it was an “unprovoked incident”.

Magistrate Mark Douglass said it was a serious domestic violence assault and would have a lasting impact on the victim.

He said the letter from Webber was genuine and that it’s clear he understands “he crossed a line”.

Webber was sentenced to a community corrections order for 18 months and fined $1000.
