Plans for a new state-of-the-art nine-storey serviced apartments and hotel tower is planned to increase Campbelltown’s tourist accommodation.

A development application for the proposed construction of 86 units has been lodged by Michael Brown Planning Strategies for 11-13 King St, Campbelltown.

According to developers, the proposed nine-storey hotel would alleviate demand for more tourist accommodation in the area, while also promising to be a high-quality and luxury business.

The $17 million hotel would incorporate 86 rooms or suites for guests, two levels of basement parking, a shared groundfloor.

The groundfloor will comprise of a reception area, lounge, office, conference room. and gymnasium, while the remaining eight floors will house units.

The proposal is earmarked for a site that is currently vacant on the southern side of King St in a ‘mixed-use’ area, with the previous buildings demolished.

Developers say the location is a big positive, as it is within walking distance to Campbelltown train station and near main roads leading in and out of the city.

A report by Stafford Strategy found Campbelltown has a ‘good mix of accommodation’, however high-quality hotels are often booked out.

The proposal claims there is an opportunity to ‘introduce a high-quality branded destination holiday park, a new branded hotel, as well as a more boutique, luxury product’.

Developers are also promising to create a number of construction jobs and to ‘assist in the achievement of tourist accommodation’.

The proposal comes after Campbelltown City Council identified a shortfall in hotel accommodation in the area in December 2018.

There are currently only 458 rooms available with the new hotel bringing the number up to 544, which the developer said would have a ‘variety of rooms to suit various travellers’.

‘The proposal seeks to construct a hotel accommodation and serviced apartments development on the land to complement the existing and future character of the area, but with a contemporary built form,’ the proposal read.
