A convicted drug supplier and survivor of a brazen drive-by shooting has admitted to possessing vials of testosterone after police searched of his home.

Jae Tregear, 35, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to possessing a prescribed restricted substance.

He made headlines in November 2019 when he was shot multiple times in a daylight attack inside his car at Barber Ave, Penrith. There was another attempt on Tregear’s life in April of the same year when two shots were fired by a masked gunman into a premises.

At the time, sources told this publication he was suspected of having links to outlaw motorcycle gang.

Tregear, now 35, was served with a firearms prohibition order in 2017 which remains enforceable and police attended his home and searched his home in the Camden area on August 2.

At 7.45am, Tregear handed one of the officers two unopened boxes of ‘Test E 250’ Testosterone Enanthate and when police questioned him, he made full admissions to owning the vials.

“I use them for training. I was in hospital for two and a half months and just trying to get back on my feet,” he said to police, according to the facts.

But then eight minutes later, officers uncovered another unopened box of the same substance. Tregear told police he bought three vials in the one go and forgot take it out of his bag.

Documents state he has kept a relatively low profile since being the victim of shootings.

“[He has a] young family and has lead a somewhat trouble free life since the events of 2019 where he was subject to a public place shooting,” police facts state.

After Tregear pleaded guilty the charge on Wednesday, Magistrate David Degnan noted he was serving a jail sentence in the community, known as an intensive correction order, for drug supply.

Mr Degnan ordered a sentencing assessment report and noted Tregear could face a jail term. The court heard Tregear had a “bad criminal record” which included convictions for drug supply and grievous harm with intent to murder.

“He’s been shot himself,” he said. “And here he is not complying with an ICO. Not once, a second time. Twice now he’s been caught with prescribed restricted substance.”

Tregear will learn his fate next month.
